Fed opts not to hike benchmark interest rate Central bank governors cite sputtering labor market, low inflation pressure

The central bank’s governors also signaled slower rate hikes to come, and lowered their forecast of U.S. economic growth. The Fed now anticipates growth of 2 percent in 2016, down from earlier projections of 2.2 percent, according to a new release.

Fed governors’ average predictions still point to two more rate hikes this year, but a larger number of governors than previously predicted there could be just one increase.

 

“We need to assure ourselves that the underlying momentum in the economy has not diminished,” Janet Yellen said at a press conference.

The non-action was largely as expected. Last month, three Fed officials known for their mainstream views suggested it was modera上海贵族宝贝交流区 上海贵族宝贝论坛tely likely the bank could raise rate, but that was before the Bureau of Labor Statistics released last month’s surprisingly weak employment data. — Ariel Stulberg

Rockpoint plans tiny rooftop office for Meatpacking building Penthouse is across the street from developer’s 18-story office project

In the shadow of what will be the tallest office building in the Meatpacking District, the Rockpoint Group plans to build a barely-there rooftop office.

The 2,300-square foot penthouse will be plopped on top of 413-419 West 14th Street, a four-story stucco-clad market building that新爱上海同城对对碰论坛 上海同城对对碰交友社区 is owned by Meilman Family Real Estate but is being redeveloped by the Rockpoint Group through a ground lease. The small box-like addition wil上海千花网交友 上海千花网论坛l be a mix of dark metal and glass, a sort of tiny companion to the 18-story giant across the way at 412 West 15th Street.

Charles Thomson, an associate at CetraRuddy, the firm designing both structures, said the penthouse will serve as a subtle transition from the historic building it tops to the office building behind it.

The design for the building must receive approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission, since the site is part of the Gansevoort Historic Market District. The office building behind it, however, is being built as-of-right. Rockpoint initially planned to build a hotel on that property but changed course earlier this year, opting instead to erect a 140,000-square-foot boutique office building. The developer to上海龙凤论坛 新上海贵族宝贝论坛ld BisNow in June that the decision to revert to office was a result of fears of oversupply in Manhattan s hotel market. Rockpoint is developing the property through a 99-year ground lease with the Meilman family. The building on 15th Street, which is already under construction, doesn t have to adhere to a recent zoning change that limits building heights in the Meatpacking District to 130 feet, since plans for the project were filed prior to the change.

Representatives for Rockpoint were not immediately available to comment.

In additional to the rooftop space, 上海千花网论坛 上海千花网Rockpoint is renovating the storefronts at the 14th Street building, as well as at the three-story building next to it at 421-435 14th Street. The developer signed a ground lease for the 14th Street property in January.

Redevelopment in the Meatpacking District has been a touchy subject, at least when it comes to Aurora Capital Associates and William Gottlieb Real Estate s project to the south. The developers are planning to redevelop five buildings along the landmarked Gansevoort Street, a plan that has face some fierce community opposition over the propose height of the buildings. In June, Landmarks approved plans to renovate and rebuild 46-74 Gansevoort Street, to the chagrin of an opposition group that argued the building designs were too tall for the neighborhood.

The city’s Human Resources Administration is planning a move to East New York in an attempt to give commercial development in the neighborhood a boost.

Patchett said that rather than using office space in neighborhoods that are already popular, city agencies could serve as anchor tenants in neighborhoods where developers have a much harder time finding credit-worthy anc爱上海同城论坛 爱上海同城hor tenants. The move could free up additional prime office space for the private sector while saving the city on rent.

Another retailer is closing dozens of its stores. Lowe’s Companies, which has more than 2,300 stores across North America, plans to shutter 51 stores in the U.S. and Canada, the Wall Street Journal reported. The closures will include 20 stores in the U.S. — two of which are in Manhattan — and 31 in Canada, the outlet reported. Timelines for the closures will vary by store, but all 51 outposts will close by Feb. 1 of next year. “The store closure are a necessary step in our strategic reassessment as we focus on building a爱上海 爱上海同城手机版 stronger business,” said Lowe’s new CEO Marvin Ellison. WeWork launches investment fund as it nears deal to buy Texas development site
WeWork is launching a real estate investment fund and getting ready to buying a development site in Texas, sources told The Real Deal. The coworking giant is sponsoring the private fund, which will be called ARK, and WeWork Property Advisors will manage it independently. Sources said the development site is a 4.4-acre property in Austin that’s currently owned by Frank McCourt’s McCourt Global. U.S. mortgage applications are at the lowest level in four years
Mortgage applications in the U.S. have hit a four-year low, Bloomberg reported. The Mortgage Bankers Association’s market composite index was at its lowest point last week since December 2014, the outlet reported. The decline, which comes as interest rates have risen, has forced companies like JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo to lay off employees in their mortgage divisions. “The data signal higher mortgage costs are an ever-growing headwind for U.S. homebuyers, who already face a dearth of affordable listings,” according to Bloomberg, which noted that interest rates have gone up eight times since December 2015.
